How can I tell the difference between honey bee honey and stingless bee honey?
Stingless bee honey is more liquid than the well known honey bee honey. Honey bee honey has a water content of about 20% while the stingless bees has a water content of between 20-42%, depending on the species and the area from where the honey is collected. The high water content in stingless bee honey makes it very prone to fermentation. The flavor is often described as a more flowery than honey bee honey, but it depends largely on the species. There has been relatively little scientific research into the medical properties attributed to honey from stingless bees, but due to the presumption that it is a remedy and the usually low amount of honey produced, the price is much higher than that of honey bee honey (Apis mellifera).

Wizara ya Maliasili na Utalii imewafunza wananchi
namna ya kubaini Asali isiyokuwa halisi ambayo
inadaiwa kutengezwa na wafanyabishara kwa
kutumia maji ya miwa yaliyochemshwa na
kubadilika kuwa sukari guru.
Akizungumza NIPASHE katika maonyesho ya
biashara ya 37 yanayoendelea katika viwanja vya Mwalimu Nyerere Jijini Dar e
Salaam jana, Ofisa nyuki na wakala wa huduma za misitu kutoka wizara hiyo,
Theresia Kamote, alisema kuna njia kadhaa za kuitambua asali iliyochakachuliwa.
Kamote alizitaja njia hizo kuwa ni pamoja na kuweka maji kwenye glasi na kisha
kumimina Asali na kwamba ikikaa chini ya glasi bila kuchanganyana na maji basi hiyo ni asilia na inakuwa haijachanganywa na chochote.
Alisema njia ya pili ni kuiweka Asali kwenye njiti ya kibiriti na kisha kuiwasha ikiwa
njiti hiyo itawaka basi Asali haijachakachuliwa kwa kuchanganywa na chochote lakini njiti ya kiberiti isipowaka inakuwa ni feki.
Aidha, Kamote aliongeza kuwa wizara yake imekuwa ikiwasisitiza wafanyabiashara
wa bidhaa hiyo kuwa waaminifu na kuwauzia wateja waoe bidhaa halisi na wale ambao bidhaa zao zinagundulika zimechakachuliwa ziharibiwa.
Aliongeza kuwa njia nyingine ni kuonja bidhaa hiyo na kwamba iliyokachuliwa kwa
kuchemsha inatoa harufu ya moshi tofauti na ambayo ni halisi.
“Wizara imekuwa ikitoa rai kwa wafanyabiashara wa bidhaa hiyo kuwa waaminifu na
pale tunapogundua bidhaa yenyewe ni feki sisi kama wizara huwa tunaiharibu,”
alisisitiza Kamote.
